Black In Nature Incorporated
Black In Nature Inc. is a non-profit organization seeking to create a safe, comfortable and inclusive spaces for Black children to participate in recreational activities.
Black In Nature believes we must foster a healthy relationship with the earth through mutual care and respect. This is achieved by involving children in land-based learning and through educating about long-term solutions to keep the earth healthy.
Black In Nature Inc. was founded in 2022 as the first Black-centred Nature School in Canada. What distinguishes us from other nature based programs are the spaces held and reserved for Black children in nature, being facilitated by Black Certified Forest School Practitioners.
“When we talk about land, land is part of who we are. It’s a mixture of our blood, our past, our current, and our future. We carry our ancestors in us, and they’re around us. As you all do.” Mary Lyons (Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe).
The land that surrounds us is part of who we are and it reflects our histories, and therefore we would like to formally acknowledge that Black In Nature Inc. is running on the unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe People.
